Colour

The Pantone Colour Institute have named the 2018 colour of the year as Ultra Violet. This whimsical purple has been described as a "dramatically provocative and thoughtful shade" that promises to take our awareness and potential to a higher level. When dealing with "fashionable" colours it is best to use them in interchangeable items such as cushions, throws, vases and chairs so that they can easily be changed in the future if they go out of date.

The pastel pink trend of 2017 will make way for an abundance of more natural earthy tones such as sienna, tan, terracotta and rust used on walls, furniture and decor items. Other important colours will be watermelon red, dusty blues, burn oranges, and dull greens to bring warmth and calmness into interiors.

Furniture

Furniture and homewares will see luxury take centre stage this year using materials like jewel tone velvet, terrazzo and brass. Couches will exude comfort with puffy, curved and plump shapes, and fringing will be showcased on furniture in reference to 1950's glamour.

Soft layering of chunky throws, plush fabrics, and natural linens will remain and trend this year, providing cosiness, understated elegance and a chilled vibe to homes. Some other trends from last year that will follow through to 2018 are indoor plants and handcrafted woven wall hangings.

Kitchens and Bathrooms

When it comes to kitchens and bathrooms, white has been the go-to for the past decade. This year, black is the new white. All black bathrooms and kitchens will command attention this year offering a contemporary and sophisticated look, especially when paired with plants.
